Google has always been a company that believes in “what is good for the web is good for Google”. This is evidenced by their never ending stream of free products. Page Speed Online is a an online tool for webmasters to see what is slowing down their web site. If your load times aren’t what they should be then this is a good place to start. Be warned that it’s a Google app which means 95% isn’t good enough. Every web page I have submitted has had some kind of optimization rules to implement for better performance. However, Google does rank those recommendations into a priority. Items such as Leverage Browser Caching are of high importance while Resizing Images are low.
For those wordpress users there is also a free plugin W3 Total Cache brought to you by the kind folks at Mashable.com which you can install. The tool will constantly monitor your blog or website to catch those bloated plugins that tend to slow down your site.
